 Chocolate fudge cake

Ingredients:

1 and 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
3/4 cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup (240ml) whole milk
1 cup (180g) semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve the cake topped with your favorite frosting or enjoy it plain.
  • Optional: You can make a chocolate fudge frosting by melting 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1/2 cup of heavy cream together, then stirring in 1/4 cup of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.
