Chocolate sponge with hot chocolate sauce
Ingredients:
For the sponge:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk
For the hot chocolate sauce:
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
For the sponge:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or cooking spray.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and mixing until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before removing it and placing it on a wire rack to cool completely.
For the hot chocolate sauce:
In a medium saucepan, bring the cream, sugar, and vanilla extract to a simmer over medium heat.
Remove the pan from heat and stir in the chocolate chips until they are fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
Serve the sauce warm, poured over slices of the chocolate sponge.
Enjoy your homemade chocolate sponge with hot chocolate sauce!
Note: You can adjust the sugar to your preference, and also you can use milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips. You could also drizzle chocolate sauce on top of the sponge or even add some whipped cream.
